Every year I publish my list of the best electric scooters, but this year I decided to do it differently.
With so many models to choose from, selecting award-winners was a challenge. So, to create the most data-driven list of the best electric scooters in the industry, I turned to our community on electricscooterinsider.com.
Over the course of 3 months, I presented a list of my top picks for each award category and let scooter fans select which was deserving of the winning title.
For instance, for the “Student” category, I presented 4 top performing electric scooters. Our community then selected which of the 4 models should receive the Best Student Electric Scooter Award. And, with the GoTrax GXL V2 receiving 844 points out of the 1,725 collected, it was the most deserving.
I scaled this across 16 award categories and gathered a total of 49,725 data points.
This data was then used alongside my rigorous review process and expert hands-on tests to determine the best overall scooter, as well as the award winners of each category.

Spawned from a collaboration between FluidFreeRide and commuter scooter rockstar, E-TWOW, the Mosquito has redefined expectations of what’s possible in the ultra-portable category. Can it be carried and stored with consummate ease? That’s a given. Does it weigh about the same as one large watermelon? Of course it does. What isn’t so predictable is that it’s also exceptionally powerful for such a lightweight little beast.
Capable of reaching a top speed of 25 mph and firing from 0-15 mph in a hugely respectable 5.0 seconds, it’s fair to say the Mosquito is punching way above its weight. The secret sauce? For all its qualities – and believe us, the Air 2022 has many – where it truly stands out in comparison to other scooters is its waterproofing credentials.
This is a scooter that, on the surface at least, is all about minimalism and excelling in the basics. Its 500W motor delivers a top speed of 21 mph, equating to 43% more power than the Air Pro 2021, while the 36V 15Ah battery has a maximum range of 31 miles in its locker and summons 44% more energy than its predecessor.
Retaining 2021’s lightweight profile, it’s clear that striking a balance between portability and performance was the guiding principle of this redesign, but more subtle are the changes that have earned the Air 2022 its place in this list.
Whereas the Air 2021 had an IPX4 water-resistance rating, the 2022’s offering now comes with an IP54 rating. The difference here is that, as well as being protected against splashes of water from any angle, it’s also now impervious to dust and debris ingress.
Another important element here is the improved frame, which is now coated in an oil-based graphite paint that is anti-corrosive, therefore making it less vulnerable to external conditions.
What’s more, the cable management has been improved considerably; there’s no longer any overhanging, with all wiring threaded through the frame to make it less exposed.
Even the fenders provide exceptional protection against splashback thanks to their elongated designs that wrap around the front and rear tires.
And just as crucially, the charging port is covered by a protective cap to ensure that no water gets in and messes with the circuitry. All of this combined amounts to a scooter that has been perfectly designed to meet the increasing demand for better waterproofing.
No scooter is completely immune to Mother Nature’s outbursts, of course, and the Apollo Air is no different. So, about that range. Let’s just say that if you’re a commuter who needs to churn through 5 miles a day to get to the office and back, and don’t have the time to constantly recharge your scooter all that often, the Cruiser is for you. The Apollo Ghost 2022 is an entry-level performance scooter that practically knocks it out of the park in every aspect.
The product of listening to customer feedback on the Ghost 2021 and applying the suggestions made, this firecracker could quite genuinely make a claim for a few of our awards.
But it’s in the Ghost’s dual 52V 1000W motors where its greatness is most crystalline. It’s exceedingly rare to find a scooter under $1,750 that can deliver the shuddering power these miniature jet thrusters can summon, and that’s what makes it such a supernatural treat.
Improving on the Ghost 2021’s 52V 800W offering, the motors wielded by the new and improved model deliver a spectacular acceleration rate of 0-15 mph in 2.5 seconds – equalling the accelerative power of the pricier Apollo Phantom – and a slightly faster top speed of 37 mph than its predecessor. The new motors are also more efficient, meaning that they have a better ratio between power output and power input. This all amounts to a phenomenal level of performance at a price that won’t haunt your every waking minute.
Predictably, the Ghost 2022 is otherworldly when it comes to hill-climbing. Moderate inclines cower in its shadow, with a satisfying amount of torque ripping out of those insatiable motors. This establishes the Ghost as an excellent choice of scooter for riders in any town or city who want to take a walk on the wild side; though, be warned: if you’re new to performance models then the power on show here may at first be a bit of a shock. A gentle introduction, the Ghost 2022 is not.
Supplementing this motor power is a 52V 18.2Ah battery that, though the same size as the one sported by the Ghost 2021, delivers a 14% increase in the scooter's realistic range (25 vs 22 miles).
Billed as a “no frills, high thrills” scooter, the Ghost 2022 nevertheless brings plenty of finesse to the table. Its front and rear dual-spring suspension deliver a feathery, buttery smooth ride quality that’s augmented by a pair of plush air-filled 10-inch tires. The tire rims have also been reinforced – they’re 50% thicker – to handle the extra power of the 1000W motors. This makes them more impervious to cracks and splits.
Elsewhere, the deck is spacious and grippy, while the handlebars sport some of the most ergonomic hand grips we’ve ever tested. And, with this being an Apollo scooter, you can bet your bottom dollar on it being a durable and robust everyday companion. The stem, in particular, has undergone a revamp; it’s now 50% stronger than the original, eliminating the possibility of any frightful wobbles.

Sometimes, you just want to sit down. Placing your bum on a seat is comfortable, so why should you be deprived of such basic pleasures when riding an electric scooter? This leads us to a model that was one of the easiest category winners to decide: the EMOVE RoadRunner.
By any measurement, the RoadRunner is a powerful scooter. Armed with a 350W motor at the front and a 500W motor at the rear, its top speed of 34 mph blows its most like-for-like competitor – the FIIDO Q1S – out of the water. For context, the Q1S has a single 250W motor and can reach a comparatively insipid top speed of 15 mph. The difference is night and day.
And power is not the only area it dominates. With a top range of 53 miles, the joker in the pack is the RoadRunner’s removable 1253Wh Dynavolt battery. Not only does it deliver 3.5 times more power than the Q1S, but you can double your range to over 100 miles with the purchase of a spare.
You may be looking at the EMOVE RoadRunner and thinking it’s more bike than scooter. We don’t blame you: what qualifies it as the latter is the fact it has foot pegs instead of pedals. These pegs are one of its best features; they allow you to lean into turns and carve from side to side. The handling and sense of control that comes as part of the package here are singular in the scooter market.
And the quirky excellence doesn’t stop there. The handlebars can be adjusted to suit your height and preferred riding stance – they can also be repositioned towards or away from you, delivering an added layer of personalization that is, again, special in its uniqueness.
Our one grumble is that the memory foam seat could be a little more comfortable, but this is largely mitigated by the adjustable front-fork suspension and mic-dropping 14-inch tires. These beauts wouldn’t look out of place on a bike; the cushioning and maneuverability they deliver go a long way in explaining why this scooter is one of the most fun to ride out of the 140+ models in our database.
Granted, at $1,795, it’s not exactly cheap. Though its handlebars are foldable, it’s also not the most portable scooter around. Its display can get washed out in direct sunlight, and it has no water-resistance rating.

Even San Francisco, a city notorious for its ultra-hilly terrain, will offer little resistance.
The star of the show is arguably the enhanced Sine Wave controllers that deliver a smooth and controlled throttle response to ensure a finely-balanced amount of torque and power is in supply to sustain climbs. The motors, too, are pivotal (combined, they produce a huge peak power output of 3000W), while the battery facilitates long-lasting performance.
Elsewhere, the Mantis V2 has very few flaws – if any. Certainly not when it comes to ride quality, which is exceptional in its price category. A dual-spring suspension system on the front and rear works in cahoots with the 10-inch pneumatic tires to create a riding experience that is akin to gliding on a magic carpet. Shock absorption and cushioning are in plentiful supply, turning even scratchy dirt tracks into an enjoyable ride.
Boasting a load capacity of 265 lbs, the Mantis is as sturdy as they come. It’s also a relatively lightweight performance scooter with portability cred. Due to its folding mechanism, it can be compacted down and transported, also fitting snugly inside your car trunk or under an office desk. Its sleek frame is tough as nails, while the deck is spacious and suitably grippy.

While it stands as a more scaled-back version of the Max, the Burn-e 2 retains many of its groundbreaking features.
One is NAMI’s adjustable hydraulic coil-over-shocks and swingarms, which together deliver the best ride quality we’ve ever tested. There’s simply no contest. It glides over all types of terrain without so much as a vibration; it’s like a hot knife cutting through butter. Effortless and serene.
No other suspension system comes close to the intuitive adjustability that NAMI’s groundbreaking set-up facilitates. Together, the motors and controllers deliver a barely believable top speed of 62 mph and an equally staggering acceleration rate of 0-15 mph in 1.7 seconds. In case you needed us to emphasize, the Wolf King GT is not a scooter for the faint-hearted. Unless you’re an experienced ultra-performance rider and an adrenaline junkie, the GT will likely leave you rocking back and forth.
The only scooters that can match its speed are the Dualtron Thunder 2, Dualtron Ultra 2, and Dualtron Storm; however, none can touch the Wolf King GT’s accelerative power. Its only competitor on that front is the NAMI Burn-e 2 Max. Predictably, the Wolf King GT is also a voracious eater of hills; it will tear through ridiculous inclines of up to 50 degrees.
Somewhat lost amidst these headline-making stats is the superb maximum range of 70 miles. This comes courtesy of its huge 72V 35Ah battery, which can be fully recharged in 12 hours – on the rare occasions you’ll need to.
Now, it’s clear that Wolf King GT packs one heck of a vicious bite. But does it deliver on the safety front?
It sure does. First, there are its dual hydraulic brakes that bring the scooter to a complete stop from 15 mph in 3.0 meters. Then we have the iconic dual-stem design that does wonders in terms of providing stability and control when riding at top speeds. The handlebars are ultra-wide and high enough to enhance your handling and feeling of security, while the deck is positively humongous, with more than enough grip to ensure you don’t go flying.
The Wolf King GT is also, along with the Burn-e 2, the best scooter out there in terms of ride quality – especially at top speeds. Its chunky 11-inch tires work in harmony with the hydraulic shocks & rear dual-spring suspension to deliver a ride that can tackle any terrain you throw its way. The ergonomic thumb throttle and button consoles also play a vital role here by giving you reassurance as you modulate your speed and riding modes when hurtling along at the speed of a car.
The final, awe-inspiring feature of the Wolf King GT’s design is its striking gold finish. However, where the GT’s frame comes to life is during the dark hours of the night. It flaunts the iconic dual headlights of the Wolf range, as well as Fast & Furious inspired under-deck LEDs, turn signals, and a smoked taillight. Combined, it has the best lighting setup of all electric scooters that we’ve tested.
This isn’t a perfect scooter, though – few rarely are. It’s about as portable as a rhino, so you can forget about carrying it. It’s also a nightmare to fold.
